Our Philosophy
Vanguard Academy supports families who privately homeschool. We serve as a resource for guidance and provide record-keeping services.

To help parents reach their goal we provide:

Accountability - We will help you keep on track with your child's education, official record-keeping, and transcripts.

Course of Study - We provide guidance in constructing the student course of study.

State Compliance - We help you ensure that you are complying with California State guidelines.

An Umbrella Program - We are a Christian Private School Satellite Program (PSP).

Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible is scripture as described in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

We believe that there is one self-existent God, manifest in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God manifest in the flesh, that He rose from the dead and ascended to Heaven.

We believe in the brotherhood of all believers who, through faith, have received the salvation provided by God's grace through the death of Jesus Christ.
Who We Are
Susan Arroyave
Susan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University.
Susan holds clear California Teaching Credentials in English, Multiple Subjects, and Administrative Services.
Vanguard Academy is the result of 12 years of schooling our children and over 20 years of teaching in the Imperial Valley: first, at Brawley Union High then at Ocotillo Community with the Imperial County Office of Education. Later, I worked as principal of Christ Community School. During these years, my husband and I realized our sons needed more attention, so we made the decision to homeschool.

That choice was one of the best we made; it allowed us to offer both of our children tailored learning plans and a chance to explore their personal interests, as well as grow academically. Those benefits pale when we think of the special memories we created in our 'homeschool' classroom, reading out loud together, playing, singing, and learning about God and his love for each one of us.

With those memories in mind, I am excited to welcome you to join Vanguard Academy on this adventure for your family. I look forward to serving you as you follow the path the Lord sets before you.

Sarah Armenta
Sarah earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from the University of Southern California.

I am a Christian Homeschooling Mom of four children, ages 17, 16, 14 and 9. My husband has always encouraged our homeschooling ventures as he runs our manufacturing business. We have always taught our children at home. Mostly this has been done by filing a Private School Affidavit with our State. For three years we joined a Charter School that facilitates workshops and activities for families that want to have a home-based education for their children. For all of our homeschooling years, we have partnered with other homeschooling families informally and also through a local Co-op. This has been a blessing beyond description for our family! Parents working together to educate children can be highly effective!
My college degree is a Bachelor's in Education. I have taught children in both the public and private sector for the past 23 years. It is my desire to see women, kids, and parents learn their unique, God-given design for becoming life-long learners as well as investing their time and talents in others.
I look forward to the blessings that can be provided to families through Vanguard Academy. Children are a blessing from the Lord, and their education is a high priority. I believe private education gives parents freedom and flexibility to provide an education that cannot be paralleled by a State-controlled curriculum. It has been a privilege for my husband and I to coordinate our children's education. My hope is that Vanguard Academy can be a support to many parents who have a desire to privately educate their children.
